Reflection

Rule 4: Understand Who you're writing about

Socrates was an extremely important theorist who displayed massive advancements in law, politics, and philosophy theory. His work is very hard to come by because he would “never write anything down”. (Hassan) Moreover, it needs to be remembered that Socrates was killed for corrupting the youth (Hassan). One can infer that society was scared by his thoughts. They were not prepared for his philosophical thoughts or ideologies.

I personally wanted to give Socrates a voice since I have been fascinated how his ideologies and beliefs have lived on for so many years but not one thing of his was written down. His thoughts and beliefs have been passed down from philosophers to philosophers over the years. Moreover I wanted to give him a voice from his last lecture. He can be seen by the majority of common day society as “not bright” for asking for money for the crimes that he has committed. The reason that he did that was the fact that he believed he provided so much valid and extremely useful education, therefore they should pay him. I wanted to pose the feelings and challenges he could face during the last little bit of his life of teaching. It should also be known that the main religion or belief was Greek Mythology. Furthermore Socrates was known for believing in a “divine being”. (Hassan)  Essentially he strongly believed that there was a greater version of everything in the world. I implemented the thought of Greek Mythology or religion to help show the philosophical fear that he created from his thoughts.

I implemented a character like Plato, since Plato was Socrates' main student since he was the only one who wasn't afraid of his teacher’s ideologies. The difference between the two is that Plato looked at the world around him/down and Socrates would look up for the greater version or divine being. Plato created his theories and ideologies after Socreates death because once Socrates was killed Plato moved strictly in philosophical teaching since the law had killed his teacher.

The two sources I utilized were lecture notes from my Grade 12 law class. The teacher conducting the class, is a PHD in political science. His notes were extremely useful to help me understand what Socrates was really like. Moreover I used an academic essay written by Bartleby Research  which displayed the relation between “Mortals and Gods” or normal humans and gods.
